Don't Penalize Kids Whose Moms Are in Prison // Separation Harms Young Children

We applaud the legislative measures introduced by Rep. Mary E.Flowers to prevent separation of children and their imprisonedparents. The unnecessary harm that befalls children under currentsentencing laws is unconscionable, and reforms are desperatelyneeded. In responding to the urgent need for change, we must notoverlook program quality or ignore the lessons that other states canteach us about what works and what doesn't.
