Robby Ginepri let victory slip from his grasp as Germany defeated the United States 2-1 at the World Team Cup on Monday.
The American served for the match against Philipp Kohlschreiber at 5-4 in the second set, but a stinging backhand winner down the line allowed the German to level at 5-5, and he went on to win 6-7 (5), 7-6 (4), 6-0.
That leveled the tie at 1-1 after Sam Querrey had claimed the first singles on Sunday. Nicolas Kiefer and Mischa Zverev then outlasted Querrey and Mardy Fish 4-6, 6-4, 10-1 in the doubles to secure victory for the host nation.
